Luleå University of Technology is Scandinavia's northernmost university in research and education in the world. The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources conducts research and education in the fields of mining, construction and the environment. Our researchers conduct high-quality, experimental and applied research, and we are supported by large and well-equipped laboratories. Architecture is one of 19 research subjects within the Department and it belongs to the Division of Architecture and Water.

The research subject of Architecture focuses on innovative research and teaching in the domain of the built environment. We consider how the planning, building and renovation processes can be developed to address major societal challenges. The position focuses on teaching and research within the sustainable renovation of existing and historic buildings.

Subject description
Architecture comprises building design, urban and traffic planning, where aesthetics is joined with functional, technical, practical and economic dimensions in relation to people, sustainability, landscape and the built environment.

As a university lecturer, you participate in the development of teaching and research in the field of Architecture, with a specific focus on the sustainable renovation of existing and historic buildings. The group of Architecture is seeking to strengthen its expertise in the sustainable management of the built environment and to develop further its competence on the preservation of historic built environments in the northernmost part of Sweden. The aim is for society to make the existing building stock more sustainable in the long-term without affecting its social, historical and cultural value for local communities.

The position includes responsibilities for:
- Administrate and teach in courses delivered by the Architecture group at the first and second cycle level.
- Supervise Master and PhD students
- Develop research on sustainable renovation of existing and historic buildings and on the sustainable management of historic built environments.

The applicant is expected to participate in the group's joint development of the field of education and research, as well as collaborate in research groups both within the department, the university and with other universities, colleges and other external parties both nationally and internationally.

Eligibility requirements in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the employment scheme
Persons are qualified for appointment as Senior Lecturer:
- If they have been awarded a Doctorate or have the equivalent scientific competence in the related areas or have the corresponding scientific proficiency
- If they have shown pedagogical proficiency
- If they have completed university pedagogical training equivalent to 7.5 credits or have in some other way acquired the equivalent knowledge.

Assessment criteria
The following criteria for assessment will be applied:
- Scientific proficiency
- Pedagogical proficiency

Other assessment criteria (equal weight)
- degree in Architecture
- research activities within the research area related to the position;
- publications in scientific journals relevant to the subject;
- experience in teaching in architecture and conservation related topics;
- experiences from attracting external funding;
- experience in presenting scientific research in national and international conferences;
- ability to communicate and collaborate with the surrounding society;
- excellent oral and written English;
- ability to teach in Swedish or willing to teach in Swedish within two years.

The appointment as Senior lecturer is a permanent position.
