The Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science. The department provides first-cycle courses and programmes and doctoral studies, and researches within anatomy and histology, physiology, and biochemistry. The majority of research at the department focuses on livestock, animals in sport, companion animals, research animals, insects, spiders, and wild animals. Our research spans from molecular and cellular mechanisms to the structure and function of the entire animal and how animals are affected by physical work, production, stress, disease, animal husbandry and environmental factors. The department is located in Uppsala.
Subject area
The subject of anatomy and histology of domestic animals includes knowledge of the structure of organisms, from the animal as a whole to the characteristics of cells. Specialisation is primarily in livestock, animals used for sport and companion animals. The development of research and teaching methods within the subject are also included.
Duties
The applicant must:
- lead, plan, evaluate and participate in practical and theoretical subject teaching
- work with examinations at first, second, and third-cycle levels on all areas of anatomy and histology, primarily for the veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing programmes, as well as first, second, and third-cycle courses within veterinary medicine and animal science
- be prepared to teach the anatomy of internal organs as well as organ and tissue histology
- develop instruction methods and the use of digital tools
- develop and lead internationally recognised research within the field that links to SLU and the faculty’s specialisations
- collaborate with both internal and external researchers
- develop and maintain national and international networks with researchers, society, and industry
- compete for external research funding
- share and communicate research findings and other relevant information to society at large
- perform administrative tasks and duties within the department, faculty and university
- be able to use Swedish as the working language within two years.
As the department’s courses are given in Swedish, the successful applicant will be expected to have working knowledge of the language within two years of taking up the position. The department will provide support with language learning.
