Statistics

Main responsibilities
Main tasks consist of teaching Statistics at the basic and advanced/master’s level. It also includes responsibility and development of courses, supervision of essays, as well as research and own development. Pedagogical development work and participation in other tasks individually and as member of committees and task forces are also part of the duties.

Teaching and essay supervision at the basic level (1st cycle) is mainly in Swedish, at the advanced level (2nd cycle) exclusively in English.

The lecturer is expected to contribute towards the department's efforts to develop research and education in modern data analysis and computer intensive methods

Qualification requirements
Eligible applicants for the position of senior lecturer should hold a PhD in Statistics or have equivalent scientific skills and have demonstrated teaching expertise.

Teaching proficiency should have been demonstrated through teaching experience at both the undergraduate- and master’s levels. Teaching proficiency should be well documented and in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order successfully to meet the demands of the position.

Assessment criteria
Special and equal emphasis will be placed on teaching and scientific skills in the area of Statistics. The scientific skills should be demonstrated through well documented research experience.

Strong emphasis will be placed on:

  • having successfully planned, applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies.
  • documented experience in research or teaching in modern data analysis and computer intensive methods. 
  • documented ability to teach Statistics courses in both Swedish and English languages.
  • a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.

It is a merit to have

  • documented experience in the application of Statistics in one or more of the social sciences.
  • completed at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of employment, but the applicant has to be ready to take on administrative and pedagogical tasks that demand an understanding and usage of Swedish after the second year of employment.

A scientifically active and well-qualified applicant may, by agreement, receive extra allocation of research time within the position with up to an additional 20% of full time in addition to the current terms and conditions agreement for a maximum of two years.
