The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections. Through a fruitful collaboration with the healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefits both health care and research

High-impact scientific publications and successful grant applications are one key factor to success within our research areas, and we are therefore recruiting a scientific editor/communications advisor to maintain the high quality of our English language scientific output.


Job assignments

To support researchers by promoting their ability to write scientific applications and manuscripts by supporting them in close collaboration and, when necessary, coach them in scientific writing. The task is to edit, enhance, and provide views on how the scientific process of grant applications are formulated and presented. To increase the impact and readability of scientific material by identifying a good structure, optimizing presentation of the data, and using clear, concise and consistent language. To review documents for scientific accuracy and credibility. To provide constructive criticism at an early stage of the writing process. To educate junior and senior scientists in the art of scientific writing.

It also includes the planning and the coordination of the application process and to ensure that the timing of the application procedure is followed by funding candidates and research, communicating with Grants and Innovation Office at the University of Gothenburg centrally. To support communication at department level in the production of professional presentations and messages in English. The work also includes participating in major and minor departmental communication questions and projects. The working language is English.


Qualifications

A PhD or equivalent in a medical or other relevant subject area is a requirement for this position as scientific editor. Extensive experience of writing and editing scientific texts for applications and publications is also required. In addition, you should be able to communicate, supervise and train researchers in a constructive and pedagogical way in developing their scientific writing. Fluent clear and grammatical correct English in speaking and writing is required.

You are used to working independently and flexibly and have excellent communication and collaboration skills. You have experience in liaising with scientists with a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels. You are reliable and able to work under pressure when grant deadlines approach. Good computer skills are also important. Research experience after your PhD and the ability to understand and speak Swedish is preferred but not required. The applicant´s personal suitability is highly important.


Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100 % of full-time and placed at the Institute of Clinical Sciences. Proposed start date: As soon as possible (or by agreement).
