The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections. Through a fruitful collaboration with the healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefits both health care and research.

Within the decipline of Medical Radiation Physics science, research on various aspects and uses of radiation are performed. Ionizing radiation is a part of radiation therapy and diagnosis with x-rays and radioactive substances. Non-ionizing radiation is utilized in diagnosis with ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. In environmental radiology radiation sources in our environment and transport of radioactive materials in biological systems are studied. Knowledge of the impact of radiation on living cells, tissues and organisms (radiation biology) is important for better understanding of mechanisms behind radiation induced effects, and for assessing radiation risks.

Job assignments

Give advice regarding radiation safety to those performing activities with ionizing radiation within the University of Gothenburg; contribute to develop and maintain steering documents, work descriptions and local rules; maintain documentation; develop and perform education for personnel; perform research oriented towards radiation safety.


An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position, medical physicist exam, experience in education on radiation safety and measurement techniques for ionizing radiation, experience in radiometric analyses (alpha, beta and gamma radiation), experience in emergency preparedness for radiation safety. It is understood that the applicant masters scientific writing in English and has good general communication skills in English and Swedish both orally and in writing. Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthens ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.


The employment is a permanent position, full time and placed at the the Institute of Clinical Sciences. Starting date: Upon agreement.
