The Department of Forest Resource Management conducts research and teaching within the subject areas of Forest Remote Sensing, Forest Inventory and Sampling, Mathematical Statistics Applied to Forest Sciences, Forest Management Planning, and Landscape Studies. The Department is responsible for several environmental monitoring and assessment programmes, including the National Forest Inventory, National Inventories of Landscapes in Sweden, and Terrestrial Habitat Monitoring. Duties:

We are searching for a person with experience in research in forest planning and development of planning models for sustainable forestry. The position includes also leading of research projects as well as the use of the Heureka system for the analysis of the possibilities of the forest landscape to produce different ecosystem services in the future. The Heureka system is developed for sustainable and multipurpose forestry. The system includes several programs and tools for simulation, optimization, GIS-operations, database handling, etc. The position also includes participation in the development of the next generation analysis and planning system, i.e. Heureka’s substitute, as well teaching at undergraduate level in forest planning.


Qualifications:

You should have a PhD in forest planning, alternative a PhD in ecology or silviculture with a strong interest for forest planning. Experience in working with computer-based decision support systems in general, and the Heureka system in particular, as well as leading research projects and education in forest planning is a merit. Significant importance is placed on personal qualities such as analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Good proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement.
