The Department of Psychology is a diverse and creative workplace for education and research in Psychology. Each semester, over 1000 students are enrolled in our courses that range from introductory level to advanced graduate level. The Department of Psychology is a workplace in development and has recently moved to the newly built university campus Albano. Together with the Stress Research Institute, which is now part of the Department of Psychology, we conduct basic and applied research based on interdisciplinary and cross-methodological approaches.

Project description
The position is part of a research grant from the Swedish Foundation for the Humanities and Social Sciences to the research program”Knowledge resistance: Causes, consequences and cures”.

The research program “Knowledge resistance: Causes, consequences and cures” aims to understand the nature of and mechanisms behind knowledge resistance, as well as finding ways to counter it.  The program is interdisciplinary, bringing together researchers from psychology, philosophy, political science and media research.  The current position will be based in psychology, but the research will be conducted in close contact with the other disciplines in the program. The research will be accomplished through a combination of experimental and field psychological studies with collection and analysis of quantitative behavioral data.

Main responsibilities
The researcher will conduct studies on the mechanisms behind, and cures to knowledge resistance including studies on cognitive and social psychological factors as well as factors at the macro level (information flow and overall political tendencies in the society).

Over the course of the appointment, the candidate will plan research, collect and analyse data, and write and publish research articles together with project collaborators. Within the project, international collaborations are encouraged, and the researcher is expected to present their work at national and international research conferences

Qualification requirements
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
Applicants are eligible for the postition if he or she has a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country in psychology, cognitive science, political science, or a related discipline.

In the appointment process, particular weight will be given to research proficiency. Candidates should be analytically and statistically proficient, be skilled in scientific writing and communication.

The candidate should be flexible, communicative and collaborative. Independence and strong motivation are expected throughout the project.

It is considered favorable if the candidate has documented experience in the field of cognitive- and social psychological factors related to motivated cognition, in experimental psychology and in methods using Big data.

Excellent English language skills are required.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of 12 months. Start date as per agreement.
