Uppsala University, Department of Art History
The Sustainable Heritage Research Forum (SuHRF) is a platform for interdisciplinary research at Uppsala University Campus Gotland in the field of sustainable heritage. By stimulating interdisciplinary research initiatives and supporting the development of research collaborations, its main aim is to strengthen the research environment at Campus Gotland. For more information about SuHRF, please follow the link https://www.campusgotland.uu.se/sustheri-en /. SuHRF involves all departments at Campus Gotland and is administered by the Department of Art History/Conservation. Heritage studies is an interdisciplinary academic field. Researchers from various disciplines work together on questions such as how heritage is defined, selected, described, preserved, used and valued.
SuHRF’s activities are built around three themes: Energy and climate, Society in change – conflict, identity and politics and Heritage and sustainable planning of built environment, of which the later is the theme of 2023 and also of this year’s SuHRF Symposium, i.e. the annual conference organised by the research forum. Relevant to this year’s theme Heritage and sustainable planning of built environment is that planning is facing major challenges. Environmental, social, economic and cultural dimensions of sustainability need to be considered in planning and decision-making processes. The SuHRF Symposium 2023 focus on the dynamic between cultural heritage and these processes, and how this is played out and expressed in contemporary society.
Duties
We are looking for a researcher with expertise in sustainable heritage with specific emphasis on the abovementioned theme to join our SuHRF team. The researcher is expected to be involved in the planning of, and also to participate in, SuHRF Symposium 2023. Furthermore, the duties include supporting and facilitating interdisciplinary research collaborations at Campus Gotland, either by writing research applications together with researchers at Campus Gotland and external partners, or by initiating and developing ideas for research collaborations. Tasks will be defined in detail by SuHRF and the researcher. The workplace is at the Department of Art History/Conservation at Campus Gotland in Visby.
Requirements
Eligible to apply for the position are researchers holding a PhD. Experience of and scientific expertise in heritage studies or another relevant discipline is a requirement. Particular attention is paid to the applicant's research background in relation to sustainable heritage, specifically the research area and duties outlined above. The assessment of applications is based on the applicant’s ability to work interdisciplinary, and to formulate and be granted research funding. The applicant must show very good cooperation skills and the ability to not only initiate but also contextualise specific research ideas to the general aims of SuHRF. Furthermore, the ability to work independently and write and speak English well is taken into consideration. Experience from working with sustainability issues is commendable for the position. Administrative skills, such as the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work in an efficient and adapted way, will be given weight.
