The Department of Sociology at Uppsala University is the oldest of its kind in Sweden. Its main subjects are Sociology and Social psychology. Undergraduate education is also offered in Sociology with Orientation towards Work, Organization and Human Resource Management, and Social work.

Duties

This researcher position is part of an international and interdisciplinary research project titled JUSTEMOTIONS; The Construction of Objectivity: An international perspective on the emotive-cognitive process of judicial decision-making. The position is financed by the European Research Council. For the project, a position as a researcher is now being advertised at the Department of Sociology, Uppsala University. The duties include analyzing and writing publications from already collected data from Italy. The research position requires in-depth knowledge of the material and the environment for the data collection. As a researcher, you are part of the project's research group and, together with other researchers, you will analyze empirical, qualitative data, such as interviews and observations. The duties include handling project administration.

Requirements

  • Finsihed PhD in sociology, criminology or other social sciences at the start of the employment.
  • Good knowledge of Italian criminal and procedural law and legal practice
  • Good knowledge of sociological emotion theory, in particular with a focus on ”law and emotions".
  •  Documented, good ability to read and write in both Italian and English, and to analyze data in both languages.
  • Previous experience of working with qualitative and sensitive data. Expereinced in different databases with different levels of confidentiality.
  • Previous experience of working within projects with focus on emotions in court.
  • Previous experience of collaborating and working in a research group.

Consideration will also be given to  good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the work within the research project, as well as contribute to its future development.

Additional qualifications:

  • Previous experience of doing research and work in Italian courts.
  • Previous experience of transcription and coding of observational and interview data from Italian courts.

About the employment

The employment is a temporary position, 9-11 months. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 2023-10-02 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
