Research and graduate education at the department of chemistry and molecular biology comprises a wide scientific field from the atomic and molecular levels all the way through cells to intact organisms. Much of the phenomena studied here impact on our natural environment and living systems. We participate in undergraduate programs in chemistry, molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, biology, marine sciences, and pharmacy.

Duties

The job assignments mainly include planning, designing and carrying out research to synthesise new chemical labelling probes that can be used both in fluorescence microscopy and mass spectrometry imaging. The successful applicant will set up the synthesis apparatus and work to develop new probe molecules with boron and a fluorescence label in the same molecule. We seek someone to contribute to a strong research program and add value to the on-going research in the Ewing laboratory at the University of Gothenburg. The topics of the work will be chemical synthesis of novel labelling probes for fluorescence microscopy and mass spectrometry imaging with NanoSIMS. These labelling probes are the topic of research in the group of Nhu Phan so this will be a collaborative effort

Qualifications

A PhD degree in Organic Chemistry is required with at least five years’ experience after the PhD. We are seeking someone that has experience with synthesis of boron and fluorine containing functional groups to be detector active in the NanoSIMS. We are also committed to green or environmentally friendly chemistry. Experience in efficient and green synthesis methods for building a library of fluorine and/or boron-containing compounds is essential to the success of this project and any applicant needs to have demonstrated published experience in this area to be considered eligible.

Employment

The position is a fixed term during one year, fulltime, 100% at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular biology.
