Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

A one-year junior researcher position with possibility for prolongation is available at the Department of Molecular Sciences at SLU, Uppsala for development of sustainable hydrometallurgical approaches for recycling of metals from electric and electronic materials, with focus on separation of light transition elements from rare earth elements.

The Department involves currently approximately 100 employees and together with two other Departments is offering an inspiring research atmosphere at the BioCenter in Uppsala. It provides an excellent research environment with expertise in advanced chemistry and life sciences with a high quality infrastructure, consisting of advanced microscopy and chemical analysis facilities, X-ray and NMR instrumentation etc. The Department conducts research, teaching and environmental monitoring in the field of inorganic, physical and organic chemistry, biochemistry, natural product chemistry, food science and microbiology. Duties

The researcher will be involved in the research project, devoted to development of sustainable recycling approaches to electric and electronic materials. The work will involve development of techniques for chemical leaching of target metals and for handling and treatment of complex solutions containing both mixture of target metals and undesired elements. The researcher will synthesize hybrid organic-inorganic nanostructured adsorbents with specific affinity to target elements with subsequent implementation of developed techniques on a lab scale and developing flow sheets for future larger scale production.

Qualifications

The applicant should have PhD in chemistry or materials science/ engineering awarded within the last 5 years. Experience with developing methodology for uptake, separation and purification of rare earth elements or transition elements is a merit as well as good knowledge of electron microscopy, spectrophotometric analysis and statistical data treatment.

A strong publication record (in relation to the time since dissertation) is a merit. The application must contain: i) a summary of the research experience, expectation on the position and future plans (max 1 page), ii) CV and iii) names of two reference persons.
