Job description
Successful candidates will conduct research in the area of graphical models and/or algebraic statistics (broadly interpreted to include algebra, geometry, combinatorics and their applications) with Liam Solus and other members of the mathematics department at KTH. Of particular interest are problems related to theoretical aspects of graphical models or the algebra, geometry and combinatorics of statistical models and complex networks. The successful applicant will be a member of the Department of Mathematics at KTH, which is home to large research groups working in mathematical statistics, applied algebra and algebraic statistics, as well as algebraic geometry and combinatorics.
Candidates with a background in these fields and an interest in algebraic statistics (broadly interpreted) are encouraged to apply. The position is a time-limited, full-time, one year position starting 1 September 2024 or at an agreed date (either earlier or later). The position comes with no teaching responsibilities or an agreed part of teaching not to exceed 20%. The position is financed through the Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP).

Qualifications
Requirements
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree
- We are looking for a candidate who has completed his/her PhD studies in mathematics, mathematical statistics, computer science or a related field.
- The applicant should have a strong background in one of the following areas: graphical models, causality, statistics, algebraic statistics, algebrai, discrete geometry or combinatorics.
Preferred qualifications
- The candidate should be a highly motivated researcher, with good collaborative skills who can work independently as well as together with other researchers.
- Great emphasis will be placed on research expertise, teaching expertise, the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with other researchers, as well as awareness of diversity and equal opportunities issues with a particular focus on gender equality
- We prefer that the candidate has the ability to work to ensure that research results are put to use, has an ability to inform about research and development work, and experience of developing and leading operations and staff.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
