The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. The research project involves modelling of the life history evolution and life history trade-offs in top marine predators. Research hypotheses are formed in the context of the transfer of vitamins in the food web. It will include development of models and validation of the models using empirical data from the Baltic Sea ecosystem.

General requirements

To be qualified for the appointment, the candidate should possess a PhD in biology or ecology.

Specific requirements refer to

Experience of modelling, especially in terms of evolution of life history trade-offs and food web modelling of micronutrients. The applicant must also have high proficiency in written and spoken English.

Assessment grounds

  • Experience of writing scientific articles is desired
  • Documented expertise in usage of dynamic optimization and individual-based modelling in testing hypothesis on evolution of life history trade-offs
  • Documented experience in Baltic Sea food web modelling
  • Expertise in MatLab

Terms of employment

Employment and scope: 100 %, for 9.5 months. The employment is scheduled to start April 2023.

Placement city: Kalmar, Sweden.
