Description of the workplace
The research group Food Hygiene at the Department of Food Technology, Engineering and Nutrition develops methods for identification of bacteria and clarifies the role of these bacteria in food and human health. The research performed in the group has been pioneering in the development of probiotics and the group has a close collaboration within both medical care, industry, and academia.

Work duties

The work duties include standardized and upscaled culturing of probiotic bacteria and optimization of formulation for survival in packaging materials and performance of durability tests of the materials, as well as cultivation experiments and microbiological analysis of plant material. The work duties also include participation in teaching, supervision of degree projects and collaboration with industry and wider society. 

Qualifications
Appointment to a position as a researcher requires that the applicant has a PhD.

Required qualifications:

• A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position (Food hygiene)
• Documented knowledge in the field of food corresponding to a degree in food
• Very good oral and written proficiency in English
• Very good knowledge and practical experience of basic microbiological methods, such as cultivation and isolation of bacteria.
• Documented experience of Next Generation Sequencing and associated bioinformatic data analysis.
• Documented experience of cultivation experiments in the field
• Driving license category B

Additional requirements:

• Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish as contact with authorities occurs within the project
• Previous teaching experience
• Good ability to write scientific literature
• Experience in hydroponic cultivation
