Duties
The researcher will primarily (80%) do research in the project ”Legal Protection for Social Parenthood”, a part of a consortium of researchers funded by a grant from the European Union. The researcher will teach 20% in the fields of family law, administrative law, private law or other legal subjects.

The research is on Swedish domestic law in the field of social parenthood policies, i.e. policies concerning the relationship between legal parenthood and de facto parenthood. In particular, the researcher shall provide legal analysis of adoptions, stepchild adoption, artificial reproduction, surrogacy, postmortem fertilization and donation, and adoption of embryos in Swedish law. The study aims to determine if these phenomena are allowed under Swedish law. If they are forbidden, the study shall cover the reasons for the prohibition and the type of sanctions applied in case of breaches. Furthermore, the researcher will study recognition in Sweden of foreign decisions on social parenthood. The researcher will try to establish if there are any child discrimination aspects due to lack of recognition in Sweden of social parenthood relationships, considering the right of movement in the EU. Discrimination may occur if Swedish law “downgrades” a social parenthood, i.e. not fully legally recognizing a family status.

The researcher will present the results of the research in order to discuss social parenthood and downgrading phenomena, in meetings of the consortium. The researcher will also organize a workshop in Sweden in order to disseminate the results to targeted legal practitioners, i.e. judges, lawyers, administrative officers and healthcare professionals.

Requirements holds or is about to finish a doctorate in Swedish family law, or other area of Swedish private or public law. In alternative, the researcher must have up-to-date knowledge of Swedish family law gained through practical experiences as judge, public servant, legal practitioners or similar legal occupation.  The researcher must be able to read and analyze legal documents in Swedish and English. The researcher must be able to communicate fluently in Swedish and English.

Additional qualifications
In order to support the development of young researchers at the Faculty of Law, preference is given to applicants who are about to or have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
