Researcher in Environmental Chemistry

Updated: 3 months ago

We are looking for a researcher who will contribute to our understanding of the environmental impacts and risks associated with hazardous contaminants in wastewater under a changing climate and to the development of innovative mitigation strategies through advanced treatment technologies.
About the position

The duties include developing a research line with a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating expertise in water quality, soil science, hydrology, climate science, risk assessment, machine learning, and environmental policy. The researcher will also investigate the fate of contaminants in both soil and water environments, using analysis of monitoring and experimental data, and modeling methods. The successful candidate will participate in ongoing and upcoming research projects (REASSURE, CLIMAMINE), build strategic networks, create resources for and run new research projects, as well as collaborate with other researchers at SLU and (inter)nationally. You are also expected to be responsible for authority assignments, teaching and supervision of students and guest researchers. You will work in a team consisting of several senior researchers and PhD students and with access to a well-equipped mass spectrometer facility.

Your profile

You must have a PhD in environmental engineering/sciences, water resources engineering, or similar. Specialization towards wastewater treatment, environmental data science, reactive transport modeling, literature synthesis and meta-analysis, sustainable water resource management and environmental policy are highly valuable merits. Data processing and visualization skills using statistical computing and graphics, e.g. R and Python, are of merits too. Knowledge of northern hydrology and experience with analysis of time series data, geospatial analysis, and modeling tools e.g., HYDRUS will be evaluated favorably. Emphasis is also placed on personal characteristics such as interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required.
