Project description
The position will be in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with a focus on video analytic methods. The successful candidate will work with Associate Professor Airi Lampinen at Stockholm University, on research related to digitally mediated social and economic encounters. The research will concern both digitally mediated labor (e.g. gig work via food delivery applications) and peer-to-peer oriented exchange arrangements. Where appropriate and of interest for the sucessful candidate, the researcher can also take part in other projects where expertise in video analytic methods is needed.

The work will be interdisciplinary in nature and it will leverage the growing links between Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) and relevant social sciences, in terms of both methodology and theoretical framings.

Main responsibilities
The position involves research on digitally mediated social and economic encounters. The main responsibilities of the researcher will include collecting empirical data, analysing it with interpretive methods (including video analysis), and writing research publications.

We are looking for a researcher with a background in Human–Computer Interaction, expertise in the domain of economic encounters, and experience in ethnographic fieldwork, including observations, video data, interviews, and participant observation.

This position is situated in a multidisciplinary HCI research group with extensive international collaborations. The researcher is expected to present their work in international venues and journals.

Qualification requirements
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to:

  • Research expertise: A track record demonstrating excellence in qualitative methods (including video analysis and ethnography) for human–computer interaction, in particular as applied to the digitally mediated economic encounters.
  • Independence: Ability to formulate original research ideas and conduct research independently in the field of HCI. Publications related to gig work or other economic encounters are a must.
  • Collaborative abilities: Ability to work as a part of team, and evidence of active involvement in collaborative research projects.
  • Communication abilities: Ability to fluently communicate research ideas and results. This should include both written outputs and presentations at top conference venues.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality. Awareness of gender issues in research and development related to digitally mediated economic encounters.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Terms of employment
This is a 40 % of a full-time employment, for a maximum of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Start date 2022-01-01 or as per agreement.
