Project description
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with an interest in immune cell regulation and host-microbe interactions. Our lab works with Toxoplasma gondii, an opportunistic pathogen in humans and animals, and also a model for understanding the biology of intracellular parasitism.

The research aims to define the molecular mechanisms utilized by intracellular parasites, to manipulate the host´s immune system to their own advantage and thereby promote colonization and transmission of infection. Recent work from the lab has shown that Toxoplasma exploits cells of the immune system to disseminate. Shortly after parasite invasion, immune cells are transformed into hypermigratory `Trojan horses’ that mediate dissemination.

This ‘hijacking’ involves parasite-derived factors secreted into the host cell and non-canonical GABAergic signaling and calcium signaling pathways. We want to decipher how this intracellular parasite commandeer vital host cell functions. The processes of host cell-parasite interactions and systemic dissemination are studied using molecular and cellular experimental approaches, animal models and various imaging modalities.

Main responsibilities
