Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Are you an expert in fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and want to develop and apply next-generation FISH techniques?

A Research specialist position is immediately available in the Bienko-Crosetto Lab (www.bienkocrosettolabs.org ) for Quantitative Genome Biology at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Stockholm.

Our lab has a longstanding track record of developing novel DNA/RNA FISH methods (www.hdfish.eu ; www.fusefish.eu ; www.ifish4u.org ) and is continuously developing innovative methods for single-molecule DNA and RNA visualization and quantification in cells and tissues.

As a Research specialist with a strong focus on FISH technologies, you will oversee the development of new protocols for DNA/RNA FISH on paraffin-embedded tissue samples and lead their application to clinical specimens from our collaborators at Karolinska University Hospital.

In parallel, you will support our group by keeping our lab space organized, overseeing orders, and training newcomers to safety procedures and basic laboratory practices.

You will be embedded in a dynamic and culturally diverse research environment and work closely with experts in microscopy and image analysis in our group.

Your mission

Your primary tasks will be:

  • Producing and validating oligonucleotide-based DNA and RNA FISH probes using our iFISH pipeline (www.ifisu4u.org ).
  • Performing FISH experiments, including sample preparation, hybridization, imaging, and basic image processing.
  • Contributing to designing new FISH workflows or protocols.
  • Ordering reagents for our group and keeping consumable stocks filled up.
  • Keeping lab equipment and spaces tidy and organized, including periodic cleaning of freezers and fridges and maintenance of PCR machines, centrifuges, water baths, and cell culture hood and incubators.
  • Introducing newcomers to safety procedures and good laboratory practices.

Your profile

You are a meticulous and organized person, and have:

  • A PhD in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Bioengineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture, basic molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA purification, PCR, in vitro transcription, reverse transcription), and fluorescence microscopy (both widefield and confocal).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oligonucleotide-based DNA and/or RNA FISH techniques.

The ability to independently organize your own work routine and flexibly adapt your weekly schedule to emerging requests. A problem-solving and forward-looking personality, i.e., you are motivated to solve obstacles that might present on the path to achieving a goal, you enjoy troubleshooting, you are not afraid of seeking for help, and you are able to find solutions even if this means revising the original goal/plan (never compromising scientific rigor and quality). A strong collaborative attitude, i.e., you are a strong team player and want to contribute to the success of the whole team. Fluency in oral and written English.
