Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Applications are invited for a position as a Research Specialist in Magnetoencephalography (MEG), at the national MEG lab NatMEG, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Neuro division, Karolinska Institutet. The position has a focus on scientific development of brain imaging applications in cognitive and clinical neuroscience using conventional MEG and on-scalp MEG systems.

The position is ideal for a person with an interest in a future career as a researcher and teacher in MEG and brain imaging applications.

Description of the subject area

The department (CNS) has a long and successful history within brain imaging, clinical and cognitive neuroscience. Qualified development work is also carried out in brain imaging methods, both in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) and in magnetic and electroencephalography (EEG), conventional MEG, and on-scalp MEG.

Your mission

The successful candidate will mainly work with the development and application of MEG-based brain imaging applications in cognitive and clinical neuroscience. This development entails a focus on both EEG and conventional MEG methods, and has a particular focus on emerging on-scalp MEG systems and methods. The candidate is also expected to conduct teaching in brain imaging (primarily EEG & MEG) conduct supervision of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in the subject, as well as providing support for users at NatMEG.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Assessment criteria

The applicant should have a PhD in cognitive neuroscience, medical technology, or an area of equivalent relevance to the position, with documented experience from the development of brain imaging applications in conventional and on-scalp MEG. Expertise in, and experience from developing on-scalp MEG sensors and systems is an advantage. Experience of MEG application development with a focus on neurological diseases such as epilepsy, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease is an advantage.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Plan for future research based on current science
  • National and international research collaborations
  • Development of one's own research profile within one's subject area
  • Experience from working with conventional MEG systems
  • Experience from working with on-scalp MEG systems
  • Experience from development of MEG systems and MEG applications
  • Experience from combining MEG with other brain imaging methods such as MRI or PET
  • Experience from comparative studies focusing on EEG, conventional MEG and on-scalp MEG

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Research grants received in regional, national and international competition
  • Presentations and scientific assignments at international congresses

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
