The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infectious biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC is an international and dynamic institution with over 400 employees who are engaged in basic and applied research.


Description of the subject area

MTC is looking for a Research Specialist in Immunology for Professor Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam's group to contribute to the group's project concerning adaptive immunity. For more information about the research, see https://ki.se/en/mtc/gunilla-karlsson-hedestam-group .


Your mission

You are expected to lead research projects and work actively both in the laboratory environment, analyze data and contribute to scientific reports and publications. In the laboratory, you will work mainly with cell and molecular biology methods, including immune repertoire sequencing, but also with biochemical methods and genetics, in close collaboration with other researchers in the group. You will supervise master students and other junior staff. You are expected to take responsibility for planning both in vitro and in vivo experiments and for writing up the results in scientific publications.


Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation. Specific requirements for this position also include many years of experience working with human and mouse lymphocyte biology - including antigen-receptor sequencing and primary cell culture/functional assays. Further requirements include experience with flow cytometry (including a driving license for cell sorting), preclinical experimental animal work (including FELASA qualification(s) and experience with breeding, genotyping, vaccinations), previous experience from international university environments, and a strong publication list.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI. When employed as a research specialist, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria specified in regulations for employment other than teacher employment apply in relation to the established employment profile.

  • Scientific original works, their quality and quantity with special regard to postgraduate studies.
  • Review articles and other scientific publications.
  • Presentations and scientific assignments at international congresses.
  • National and international research collaborations.
  • Research experience from a research group other than where the research education was conducted.
