The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.


Description of the subject area

MTC is looking for an experienced molecular biologist to join Professor Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam's group to contribute to the group's project in immunogenetics with a special focus on adaptive immune receptor genes. The group's research addresses how human genetics affects the diversity and function of adaptive immune responses.


Your mission

In your role, you will use molecular biology methods and NGS to analyze large sample collections, as well as organize samples and reagents in close collaboration with researchers in the group. We are looking for a person who can contribute technical expertise and organization of several projects in the group.


Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Applicants are expected to have broad knowledge of molecular biological methods.


Assessment criteria

Qualifications (requirements) for the position include:

  • Many years of experience (>6 years) in molecular biology activities in a research lab and basic knowledge in genetics and genomics.
  • You should have a genuine interest in serving as support for several parallel research projects in the group and have good organizational and documentation skills.
  • Strong references from previous workplaces are a requirement.

Meritorius for the position:

  • It is advantageous if the applicant has experience of working with PBMCs from clinical vaccine trials and with large sample collections of genomic DNA (>1000 samples per project).

The group exclusively uses English as a working language.
