Research Specialist in Heart Regeneration

Updated: 3 months ago

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
Description of the subject area

The central scientific interest of the Eroglu laboratory, is to understand mechanisms of heart regeneration at the molecular and cellular level, with the ultimate goal of applying the regenerative principles, logic, pathways, technology, and model systems to enhance the regenerative capacity of the human heart. We use several different approaches to study heart regeneration, including cryoinjury model in salamanders and in vitro stem cell differentiation systems.

Your mission

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic research specialist with a strong background in the heart regeneration field. The research project will focus on characterizing the role of tight junctions in epicardial progenitor activation and differentiation and establish live imaging methodologies and transgenic lines to perform force measurement.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated substantial research expertise as well as have documented scientific productivity after defending their doctoral dissertation.

In addition, it is required to have:

  • A strong background in molecular and cellular biology.
  • Knowledge regarding cardiac tissue regeneration and heart disease is demonstrated by work performed in regenerative species such as salamanders and zebrafish.
  • Experience in confocal and in vivo microscopy, preferentially with hands-on experience in live imaging of heart tissue and imaging-based assessment of heart function and cardiac tissue regeneration.
  • Experience in working with cell culture including stem cell differentiation, cell co-cultures and 3D cell culture systems using biopolymers, as well as generation of cardiac organoids.
  • Practical laboratory experience in the following areas: gene editing, molecular cloning, DNA/RNA purification, genotyping, qPCR, recombinant protein expression and isolation, histology and immunohistology.
  • Excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown:

  • Demonstrated ability to generate and validate transgenic and mutant lines.
  • Experience in performing cardiac surgical procedure in salamanders.
  • Training and supervising trainees and students.
  • Capacity to write competitive research grant applications and obtain independent research funding.

As a person, we would like you to be energetic and passionate to fit in and actively contribute to our team. In this recruitment, we place great importance on personal qualities.
