Description of the workplace
The department has an extensive postgraduate program and hosts the National Graduate School in Historical Studies. The Department of History has a large group of active researchers, with a chronological emphasis on early modern and modern history. Cultural history, global history, the history of knowledge and international contemporary history are prominent specialisations (read more https://www.hist.lu.se/en/research/ ). NORAH at LU, (North European Center for Research about Antisemitism and the Holocaust, at Lund university) is an expanding research center at the department.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
You will be part of the research center NORAH at LU and its activities and contribute to the creation of the research environment. Your research project will be linked to the project "In the shadow of genocide: memory and experience of the Holocaust and antisemitism in the Scandinavian countries."
Your project plan must relate to one of the following three themes:
1. Studies of Holocaust survivors in Sweden
2. Comparative studies of contemporary antisemitism in Northern Europe and its historical roots.
3. Research on how the memory of the Holocaust has been shaped within artistic forms such as music, art and drama and in the context of exhibitions, memorial arrangements and in museums during the post-war period. Joint work with NORAH's publications, workshops, conferences and other activities is included in the position. In addition, the position includes scientific and research administrative responsibility for NORAH's seminar series.
You are expected to:
- Conduct research of high international level in an individual sub-project that is related to the framework of the project "In the shadow of genocide: memory and experience of the Holocaust and anti-Semitism in the Scandinavian countries
- Actively contribute to the activities at NORAH in general, among other things by applying for own external research funds that are placed at the Department of History.
- Participate in seminar and conference activities within the framework of NORAH. In order to fulfill these expectations, it is a requirement that you must be collaborative and have a high presence at the history department during the employment period.
Qualifications
Requirements for employment are:
- A doctoral degree (or a foreign qualification deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree) in a historical discipline, preferably obtained no more than seven years before the deadline for applications.
- Very good knowledge of the research fields of antisemitism and Holocaust studies.
- Independence, collaborative skills and scholarly curiosity.
- Very good knowledge of spoken and written English.
Additional qualifications for the position are:
- Experience of having developed research environments and/or research collaborations, for example by co-authoring scholarly texts, organising workshops or editing publications.
- Good knowledge of a Nordic language
- Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding
Further information
The position is a fixed term position for 24 months at 75 per cent of full time, and starting on 1 September 2024 or according to agreement. We will conduct interviews with a shortlisted group of applicants.
