The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The Translational PET Imaging lab is looking for a research engineer, with excellent technical laboratory and organizational skills, to work in a scientifically leading environment with researchers of diverse and international background.

The position will be based in the Translational PET Imaging research group at Uppsala University and Science for Life Laboratory. The research group focuses on development of molecular imaging methodologies for improved diagnosis, management and treatment of disease (https://www.ilk.uu.se/research-groups/translational-imaging/ ). The research group is part of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and currently consists of 5 senior and 5 junior scientists, with diverse international backgrounds.

Work description: The applicant will support research projects, often involving develop and evaluate novel PET radiopharmaceuticals for in vivo molecular imaging of disease processes. In this capacity, the applicant will perform routine in vitro and in vivo assays. Assays include standard laboratory techniques such as immunohistological staining, tissue sectioning and animal handling. Also, assays also often involve handling radioactively labeled compounds (PET radiopharmaceuticals).

Duties: The main duty of the position is to support ongoing research projects by performing routine laboratory procedures and in vitro and in vivo assays. We also expect the applicant to set up and optimize new assays from literature, in collaboration with the scientific staff in the research group. The work duties will also include routine maintenance of the lab, responsibility for certain lab equipment and coordination of ordering of reagents.

Requirements: We welcome applications from candidates that have (or soon will have) a M.Sc. degree or equivalent in biomedical sciences (e.g. BMA), bioengineering, chemistry, or similar fields of study.

Very good organizational skills and flexibility is required as the applicant will support complex research projects. Good communication and collaborative skills are required as the work involves internal (group members) and external (international collaborations) interactions. Very good skills in Swedish and English, both verbal and written, is a requirement. The applicant is expected to work independently and be able to take own initiatives.

Additional qualifications: Previous documented laboratory experience involving animal handling, radioactive compounds and/or PET studies are an advantage. Completed courses in laboratory animal science or radiation protection are an advantage.
