SciLifeLab (SciLifeLab ) is a national center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab is a national resource hosted by
Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. The center also collaborates with several other universities.

The employment will be placed at the Department of biochemistry and biophysics, at Stockholm university.

Main responsibilities
We are looking for a research engineer to perform "Lab Manager" tasks.

This role requires being responsible for the day to day operation of the research lab so that work can take place without interruption and in a safe manner. This includes keeping instruments in good working order, intructions for users of the lab, as well as purchasing consumables, reagents, and lab equipment. Other duties include maintaining databases of material inventory, computers, chemicals, data storage, and laboratory protocols.

There are some regular laboratory tasks such as preparation of buffers, reagent aliquoting, standardization of common protocols, and creating/updating risk assessments. It also includes administrative tasks such as being responsible for scheduling lab duties and group meetings, seminars, social events, as well as archiving of data and documents. Ability to update the group websites is a desirable skill.

There are also opportunities to contribute experimentally to research projects based on interest and need.

Additionally, part of this role will include responsibility for overseeing operation of a BSL2 cell culture facility shared with 2 other groups.

We are looking for a highly motivated, collaborative employee who will work well in a diverse team of mostly international employees (20 people from 12 countries). You should be organized, service-minded, and be able to work independently to run laboratory operations efficiently and safely.

Being outgoing, able to take initiative, and bringing a positive attitude to everything you do will be critical to success in this role. Emphasis will be placed on excellent communication skills, personal qualities such as responsibility, team spirit, patience, flexibility, and creative problem-solving ability

Qualification requirements
Master's degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, biophysics, biochemistry, or similar, with work experience in organizational and operational branches of research laboratories with at least 4 years of work experience in this field. 

You must have experience and knowledge in:

Molecular biology.
Laboratory safety.
BSL2 cell culture.

Good ability to communicate in oral and written English. 

Familiarity with
Immunohistochemistry, FISH, or similar.
Fluorescence microscopy. 

Additional desirable skills:

Experience using the KLARA chemical inventory system.
Familiarity with public procurement procedures.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, indefinite-term position with a six-month trial period. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary. Start date immediately.
