The Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences is one of the university’s largest departments, with operations mainly in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Our aim is to engage in medical and biomedical education and research of high international standing. We are looking for Research Engineer, formally based at the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN) within the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences. 

Your future work assignments
As a Research Engineer you will serve as a supportive function for the researchers within the experimental activities at the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN). The conducted research focuses on neurobiological mechanisms, underlying affective disorders and addictions.

Your tasks will consist of:

  • responsibility for animal handling, and work with animal models together with researchers in the group
  • administrative work related to laboratory activities
  • molecular and biochemical analyses such as preparation of protein and nucleic acids from human and rodent tissue, ELISA, Mesoscale, genotyping (various PCR methods) and cell culture

Your future workplace
You will work at the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN) , in Markus Heilig's research group.

Your qualifications
We are looking for someone who has a Master’s degree in Biomedicine/Biology or equivalent. The applicant is expected to have documented good skills in neurobiology.   

Completed Animal Science Course (LiU course 8MEA05-Laboratory Animal Sciences, 7,5 credits or equivalent course at another university) is a requirement. The applicant should have experience working with rodent models for affective disorders/addiction, particularly relevant is experience regarding stress models and operant self-administration.

The applicant is expected to have special knowledge in behavior analysis (using software programs such as EthoVision), and experience in tissue sampling and laboratory methods such as immunohistochemistry, genotyping, and ELISA.

Expertise in, and experience with configuring, programming and supporting Med Associates behavioral equipment is a particular merit.

Due to the research environment you need to be fluent in both written and spoken English.

Form of employment
Full time, permanent employment.
