Offer Description
We have the power of over 50,000 students and co-workers. Students who provide hope for the future. Co-workers who contribute to Linköping University meeting challenges of today. Our fundamental values rest on credibility, trust and security. By having the courage to think freely and innovate, our actions together, large and small, contribute to a better world. We look forward to receiving your application!
About the position
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), particularly 4D Flow MRI, enables detailed quantification of cardiovascular hemodynamics through the measurement of blood flow in the heart and blood vessels. By combining such data with physiology-based mathematical models, patient-specific digital twins can be developed to improve our understanding of cardiovascular disease and its treatment.
As a research engineer, you will contribute to the development of the next generation of patient-specific digital twins for cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment, with a particular focus on hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. The work involves advanced processing and analysis of 4D Flow MRI data, as well as the integration of image-based measurements with mathematical models of cardiovascular physiology.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing methods for the analysis and quality control of 4D Flow MRI data.
- Developing and validating patient-specific mathematical models and digital twins.
- Quantifying hemodynamic parameters and biomarkers related to cardiac function, vascular function, and blood pressure regulation.
- Collecting and analyzing longitudinal clinical data from patients before and after treatment.
- Scientific writing and publication of research findings in international peer-reviewed journals.
The research is conducted in close collaboration with experts in medical image analysis, MRI physics, cardiology, mathematics, and systems biology. The work will take place within established research environments at CMIV and Linköping University, as well as through collaborations with national and international research partners.
About you
We are looking for someone with strong communication skills who enjoys working collaboratively while also being able to work independently.
You have excellent English language skills, both written and spoken, as the department and project operate in a multilingual environment.
Required qualifications:
- Master's degree in Engineering (M.Sc. Eng.) or equivalent.
- Experience in handling and processing medical images.
- Experience in computer programming.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of 4D Flow MRI data processing and analysis.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular physiology.
- Experience programming in MATLAB and Python.
- Experience in systems biology, mathematical modelling, and digital twins.
- Proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written.
Workplace
You will be employed at the Department of Diagnostics and Specialist Medicine (DISP ) and the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences (KAV ). The position is affiliated with the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV ).
CMIV is an interdisciplinary research center at Linköping University conducting focused, cutting-edge research through collaborative projects that address tomorrow's clinical challenges. The interdisciplinary research group in Cardiovascular Imaging and Modelling (CIM) within CMIV develops and applies advanced MRI and CT methodologies in the cardiovascular field, which is one of CMIV's main research focus areas.
