Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS) is a Swedish Research Council-funded infrastructure that has been in operation since 2010. Initially comprising two nodes at KI and Umeå University, CBCS was expanded in 2022 with the addition of nodes at Lund, Uppsala, Linköping, and Gothenburg Universities.

As an infrastructure for chemical biology at Science for Life Laboratory's Chemical Biology and Genome Engineering platform, CBCS specializes in identifying bioactive small molecules or chemical tools for all fields of life sciences. We offer collaborative services and guidance in assay development, small-molecule screening, and hit to chemical probe optimization. We are also in the process of establishing additional service offerings in small-molecule profiling, including Cell Painting, and screening in primary and complex disease models. Your mission

We are currently looking for a highly skilled biologist to join our team at the KI node. As part of our mission to identify, develop, and optimize high-quality small molecule tool compounds for academic researchers, you will be responsible for evaluating various assay formats and performing cell-based and biochemical high throughput and high content screens. You will also work with primary patient cells or complex disease models, manage projects in close collaboration with researchers from diverse backgrounds, and deliver high-quality data.

Applicants must have a proven track record in assay development and small-molecule screening, ideally from the pharmaceutical industry or academic screening centers. Experience with laboratory automation, particularly working with 1536 well assay formats and 3D cell culture, is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for experimental work, excellent analytical, managing, interpreting, and reporting skills, as well as a staff scientist mindset, dedication to producing high-quality and reproducible data, and the ability to work independently in a structured and efficient way.

Eligibility requirements

We are looking for someone who enjoys collaborative science and possesses excellent interpersonal and cooperation skills. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are essential, as well as experience with documentation skills and electronic lab notebooks.

If you are a versatile biologist with a passion for experimental work, a dedication to producing high-quality and reproducible data, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently, we encourage you to apply.

The position is placed at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics under the Research Division Chemical Biology, located at SciLifeLab, where you will work closely in a team of biologists and medicinal chemists within a vibrant research community, to enable chemical biology and drug discovery innovations.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Here, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research.
