Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Two Research Assistant positions in Computational Genome Biologyare immediately available in the Bienko-Crosetto Lab for Quantitative Genome Biology at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Stockholm.

The Bienko-Crosetto Lab is focused on developing and applying cutting-edge genomic technologies to map the spatial organization of chromatin in the nucleus of mammalian cells, with the long-term goal of understanding how DNA-RNA-protein interactions shape the higher-order chromatin architecture and orchestrate it under physiological and pathological conditions.

As a Research Assistant, you will contribute to analyzing various omics datasets that we are continuously generating in our lab and apply advanced computational tools to model the 3D genome architecture of single cells.

You will be embedded in a dynamic research environment (https://bienkocrosettolabs.org/) where you will work alongside senior scientists, postdocs and PhD students from diverse fields and backgrounds, expanding your knowledge and computing skills, and fostering your creativity.

Your mission

Your main tasks will be:

  •  Applying available pipelines for processing Hi-C and GPSeq datasets generated in our lab
  • Integrating GPSeq and Hi-C data generated in our lab with various types of publicly available omics datasets (e.g., ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq)
  • Applying and further developing the Chromflock software that we previously built for making single-cell 3D genome reconstructions by integrating Hi-C and GPSeq data (see PMID: 32451505).
  • Collaborating with mathematicians and theoretical physicists in our lab to develop mathematical models of 3D genome organization and its dynamics in physiological and pathological conditions.

Your profile

You have:

  • A bachelor’s or a master’s degree in Physics/Mathematics/Bioengineering/Biotechnology or equivalent.
  • Documented prior hands-on experience on analyzing different types of NGS data.
  • Fluency in at least one of the following programming languages: Unix/Bash/Python/C++/ Matlab/R.
  • Ability to independently organize your own work routine and flexibly adapt your weekly schedule to emerging requests.
  • A problem-solving and forward-looking personality, i.e., you are motivated to solve obstacles that might present on the path to achieving a goal, you enjoy troubleshooting, you are not afraid of seeking for help, and you are able to find solutions even if this means revising the original goal/plan (never compromising scientific rigor and quality).
  • A strong collaborative attitude, i.e., you are a strong team player and want to contribute to the success of the whole team.
  • Fluency in oral and written English.

Choose to work at KI – Ten reasons why

Our labs are located at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) situated at the Karolinska Institute campus in Stockholm. SciLifeLab is an interdisciplinary center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research, bringing under the same roof groups from four universities: Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. The center features state-of-the-art technology platforms, including next-generation sequencing, high-throughput histology, super-resolution microscopy, proteomics, image analysis, and bioinformatics.

Application

An employment application must contain the following documents in English:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the BA or MSc Degree award, certification of credits and current position.
  • A 1-page motivation letter describing previous lab work experience and why she/he wants to join the Bienko-Crosetto Lab.
  • Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labor unions or student organizations, parental leave or similar circumstances.
  • Welcome to apply!

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
