We look forward to receiving your application!
We are looking for a Research assistant, formally based at the Division of Neurobiology.
The position
You will perform experimental studies of the effect of endogenous and exogenous compounds on cardiac voltage-gated potassium ion channels, with the aim of providing a deeper understanding of the anticipated effects on cardiac function. You will primarily work with molecular biology techniques and electrophysiological techniques in cell models. More specifically, you will express ion channel proteins in oocytes from Xenopus laevis, followed by the electrophysiological technique two-electrode voltage clamp to study how ion channels respond to endogenous and synthetic compounds. You will be studying human ion channels and ion channels from rabbit, guinea pig, and zebrafish, which are common species used in animal studies of cardiac electrophysiology. Your tasks will also include literature studies with focus on newly published research studies of relevance for the project and participation in research group activities such as project meetings and journal clubs.
The person we need
We are now looking for someone with an academic degree in Physiology, Pharmacology, or similar. Extensive practical experience of electrophysiological techniques to study voltage-gated ion channels is a requirement.
Experience with heterologous expression of ion channel proteins in oocytes from Xenopus laevis (including RNA injection, two-electrode voltage clamp, data analysis) is considered a merit. Even specific experience of electrophysiological characterization of voltage-gated potassium ion channels and their pharmacological response is seen as meritious.
The position requires good knowledge of spoken and written English.
As a person, you are structured, self-motivated and initiative-taking.You are motivated and take responsibility for reaching set goals with good quality. You find it easy to work with complex issues and are characterized by good collaboration skills.Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
