Job description

The position as a research assistant is financed by the European Union, within the Urban Burden of Disease Estimation for Policy Making programme. The project will develop the understanding of links between urban and transport planning, environmental exposure, physical and health. More specifically, the project will develop an overall urban burden of disease impact assessment framework; identify health and wellbeing indicators; obtain exposure-response relationships for the environmental stressors and health outcomes of interest; review, evaluate and develop tools and guidelines for cost-benefit analyses; and calculate urban burden of disease estimates and socioeconomic impacts and monitor trends. The analyses will focus on nearly 1000 European cities and a set of environmental stressors. The research assistant will work on economizing these interrelationships, specifically in the context of the evaluation and development of tools and guidelines for cost benefit analyses. Specifically, the project seeks to advance the understanding of transport-related air pollution, noise, and other exposure factors for quality of life and health. The consortium involved includes the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, University of Cambridge, University of Utrecht, Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, as well as the Health and Environment Alliance in Belgium.
