As a research assistant, you will mainly work within the REVISED TEXT project, but also in other research projects in textile technology.

The project REVISED TEXT ("REVItaliSera blandat TEXTilavfall", or REVItaliSera mixed TEXTilwaste) gives textiles a second life through chemical recycling is a Formas-funded research project in collaboration between Luleå University of Technology and the University of Borås. The project develops a method for chemical recycling of unsorted, mixed textile waste. The University of Borås is primarily responsible for the textile technology parts of the project, including characterisation of recycled fibres, development of yarns, nonwoven and textile structures, and validation of mechanical, physical and thermal properties.

You will plan, carry out and document practical laboratory work in the Swedish School of Textiles' textile lab environments as well as prepare, handle and label samples from recycled textile materials, including cotton, polyamide/nylon and mixed material streams. Furthermore, you will participate in characterisation of recycled fibres, yarns and textile structures, such as fibre length, fineness, mechanical properties, morphology, chemical composition and thermal properties. You will support the development of new materials and textile structures from recycled fibres, such as nonwoven, yarn, knitted, woven or other textile constructions. The work also includes compiling, analysing and quality assuring experimental data as well as contributing to lab reports, project reports, deliverables and scientific documentation. In addition, you will carry out literature reviews and assist the project manager with sample logistics, purchase of consumables, risk assessments and ongoing project administration.

To fill the position, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in textile technology, materials engineering, polymer engineering, or a closely related field is required. Furthermore, documented knowledge of or experience of textile materials, fibres, yarn or fabric processes and/or material characterisation is required. You should have the ability, under supervision, to plan and carry out experiments in a structured, careful and safe manner, as well as to document, compile and analyse experimental results. Good collaboration skills and the ability to work independently in a research and lab environment are also a requirement. You must also have very good oral and written proficiency in English.
