Research Assistant in Plant Product Quality

The Department of Plant Breeding works with research, education, and innovation of strategic importance for society's long-term supply of food, industrial raw materials, and energy to meet an increasing need for raw materials and at the same time make plant production increasingly environmentally friendly and energy-efficient. We are a workplace that is growing in size and has a large international breadth among our employees. Together, we are involved in developing the crops of the future together with growers and industry, and thereby contribute to what is in consumer demand. The department consists of three departments, plant breeding, biotechnology and plant product quality.
At the division of Plant Product Quality (PPQ), we work with improving the end-use quality of crops, particularly for food purposes and industrial uses. The PPQ focuses on end-use quality in terms of taste and smell, protein content and composition, bread-making quality, and the content of nutritious compounds such as bioactive components, essential minerals, and amino acids. The division of PPQ is now looking for a research assistant.

Duties:

We are looking for a highly motivated research assistant who can take practical responsibility in the lab for assisting researchers and various duties related to ongoing projects. The successful candidate will work with plant material in many aspects. Duties range from measuring protein composition and bioactive compounds in plant samples, preforming greenhouse and field activities and preparing media and stock solutions to support laboratory operations.


Qualifications:

We seek a highly motivated candidate with bioanalytical or plant biology technical training, or equivalent in life science or agricultural science, focusing on analytical chemistry, biochemistry, food science and preferentially knowledge of agricultural crops. Experience working in a university laboratory environment is an asset. Proven ability to communicate freely in English is required, with communication in Swedish an asset. Great emphasis is given to personal qualities such as taking individual responsibility, showing leadership, the confidence to instruct users in a laboratory environment, and the ability to work both in a research group and independently. Swedish driving license B is additional merit.
