Research assistant in pharmacogenetics

Updated: 24 days ago

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We invite applications for a Research Assistant position in the research group of Professor Magnus Ingelman-Sundberg, within the Section of Pharmacogenetics.

This position is housed in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, known for its collegial, international, and dynamic research environment. Our group specializes in precision drug therapy, utilizing an in vivo-like spheroid system that mimics the transcriptional, proteomic, metabolomic, and functional properties of donor livers. Our current research focuses on the mechanisms of liver fibrosis and the development of novel therapeutic interventions. We are particularly focused on designing new siRNA molecules for treating Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH). Additionally, we are identifying new genetic variants that can predict drug metabolism rates and drug-induced hepatotoxicity, which can be used as pharmacogenomic biomarkers in clinical settings. To date, we have identified over 10 such major variants that are currently in clinical use.

Your mission

Your primary responsibilities will include participating in one or two of the following activities:

  • Creating liver spheroids from isolated cells and examining endpoints such as MASH, toxicity, and drug metabolites under various conditions.
  • Investigating the stability and metabolism of different siRNA constructs aimed at inhibiting MASH or other liver conditions.
  • Expressing genetic variants that are important for drug metabolism and analyzing their properties with respect to drug metabolism.

Your profile

We are looking for a motivated individual interested in contributing to and interacting with a dynamic team of approximately six researchers. The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills, well-organized, and enjoy interacting with researchers and students.

Previous experience with liver spheroids or in vitro analyses of genetic variants in cell or spheroid expression systems is required.

While knowledge of the Swedish language is advantageous, fluency in both oral and written English is essential.
