The Department of Zoology is one of the departments at the Faculty of Science with about 150 employees. The main research areas are Ethology, Ecology, Population Genetics, Functional Morphology, and Systematics.

Main responsibilities
The applicant’s main responsibilities will be to collect data, manage large-scale datasets in biomechanics and physiology, and will include fish husbandry, aquarium set up and maintenance, and assistance with ongoing research projects. As a research assistant, you have the responsibility of performing kinematics analyses of videos, compiling and checking data sets, feeding fish, checking tanks for recently born juveniles, sexing fish, filling up tanks, checking water quality, setting up new tanks, maintaining a well-organized aquarium facility, assisting with ongoing research projects (e.g. photographing fish, moving fish to experimental tanks, etc.), organizing the protocols and equipment for the lab, and summarizing collected data when possible.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for someone with experience conducting and organizing research projects in the laboratory, analyzing biomechanical and physiological data, and with experience working with saltwater and freshwater fishes. Research experience working with sand smelt is particularly advantageous, as this will be the main researcher organismal the assistant will work with. A good working understanding of statistical procedures, Deeplabcut, R, and experimental design is necessary. The applicant should have a good understanding of how research projects are carried out and be comfortable with collecting and curating datasets.

Terms of employment
This is a 75 % time, fixed term position starting from 2023-02-20 until 2024-01-31. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary.
