Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The mission at the Unit of Systems Toxicology is to perform top quality research to understand how different environmental exposures affect human wellbeing, focusing on the impact of chemicals and microbes on epithelial barrier function and immunity, and development. We work with experimental and bioinformatics models and methods, including cells, zebrafish, and different omics analysis. We are now recruiting a Research Assistant who will work with Associate Professor Emma Wincent in a short-term project related to the impact of metals and xenobiotic chemicals on embryonic development. The employment is temporary for six months.

Your mission

The project is centered upon identifying mechanisms underlying developmental toxicity of metals, and how these are influenced at exposure to mixtures of metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, with a particular focus on metabolic and endocrine signaling pathways. The project is performed as a collaboration with the research group led by Maria Kippler at the unit of Metals and Health at Karolinska Institutet.

Your profile

We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated individual with a solid background in experimental cell biology and/or toxicology. Experience in tissue sectioning, histology examination, microscopy and immunohistochemistry is required. Previous work with chemical exposure and effect analysis, including techniques such as qPCR, transcriptomics and metabolomics data analysis, gene manipulation through siRNA transfection, and ELISA is preferable.

The candidate must be able to work within a team of scientists from different disciplines and nationalities, and fluency in English, both written and oral, is a requirement. Qualified to be employed as a research assistant is one who has obtained a master’s degree or has equivalent scientific competence. A doctoral degree may be meritorious.
