The Department of Political Science is a dynamic and strong education and research department at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Stockholm University. The Department aims to be nationally leading and internationally prominent within its field of research and education.

Main responsibilities
We seek one or more research assistants to work with a project that involves assembling a database of environmental policies which measures the primary environmental domains and policy instruments used by governments across the world.

The position will be associated with the Comparative Policy Laboratory (COMPLAB) module in the national infrastructure DEMSCORE financed by the Swedish Research Council. COMPLAB is a joint research venture devoted to the study of comparative policy, consisting of partners from Department of Political Science, Stockholm University, SOFI, Stockholm university, and Department of Political Science, Uppsala University. The successful applicants will be part of the environmental policy team located at Stockholm University’s Department of Political Science studying public policy developments in a cross-national and longitudinal perspective.

Qualification requirements
Previous experience with document material collection and coding is strongly preferred, but not necessary.  Applicants should have a good record of social science education and interest in public policy, strong analytical skills, and demonstrated computer literacy.  In addition, emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science or a related social science field
  • Ability to read and analyze complex policy texts
  • Documented familiarity with Excel or equivalent data/spreadsheet editor
  • Excellent proficiency in English (reading and writing)
  • Proficiency in French, Arabic, or Spanish is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Attention to detail and precision, analytical and problem-solving skills, and good interpersonal abilities
  • Interest in environmental politics.

Terms of employment
The employment is up to full-time depending on availability and is fixed-term for three months with possibility for extension. Working hours are flexible, but applicants must be available to meet approximately once per week for approximately three hours during standard business hours. 

Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary. Employment begins May 1st or by agreement.
