Research assistant - aquatic microbes and their interactions

We are looking for a person with a keen interest in understanding interactions among microbes.
About the position

The research includes fieldwork for lake sampling and sample processing as well as written scientific communication. You will be integrated in our group and will be involved in data analyses and sampling. In the context of this short-term position, we will focus on understanding microbial interactions in aquatic environments using our existing datasets. You will also join sampling for generating new metagenomic datasets and be engaged in bioinformatics analyses of multi-omics datasets generated from environmental samples. Your profile

You must have a PhD degree (or equivalent) with specialization in microbiology, microbial ecology, molecular biology, bioinformatics or related areas. Furthermore, it is required that you have;

  • Proficiency in English speaking and writing
  • Experience in multi-omics analysis of microbes
  • Experience with field work and processing water samples

Personal suitability for the work tasks, such as good collaboration skills, ability to work independently and as a member of a group, and flexibility and problem-solving skills will be considered in the assessment of candidates.

Demonstrated experience of using computer programming languages (UNIX command line and R/python) for multi-omics data analysis is meritious.


About us

The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment is working with applied environmental science, with a national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to water chemistry, pollution and aquatic biota. The research focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, microbial ecology as well as on environmental chemistry and aquatic ecotoxicology. The department has some 140 employees, of which approximately half are researchers/doctoral students and the other half are technical and administrative staff.
