Description of the workplace 

We are investigating coherent laser radar methods for monitoring insect abundance and diversity, and now need assistance with field campaigns and instrumentation development. We will use a polarimetric lidar to analyse stratification of insect diversity in an Ivorian virgin tropical forest. In addition we need to develop infrared target analysis and remote hyperspectral sensing of free flying insects.

Work duties
  • Assist in polarimetric entomological lidar campaign in Ivory Coast
  • Evaluate photonic field data
  • Implement insect target analysis in the short-wave infrared
  • Assist in design and test of kHz remote hyperspectral dark field methodology
  • Assist relevant project and thesis students
  • Scientific reporting

The proposed work will be within the frame of a project funded by ERC-2020 entitled: Bug-Flash: Coherent Back-Lasing from Atmospheric Insects. 


Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • M. Sc. directed towards Photonics
  • Experience with lidar and/or continuous wave lidar
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Excellent skills in Zmax, Fusion och Matlab 

Additional qualifications for the position are:

Documented experience in the biophotonics area is beneficial, such as master thesis work and/or scientific publications, and experience in insect surveillance.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.


Further information

The position is a fixed term position for five months at 100% and starting in 1st of January 2023 or by agreement.
