Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.

The Department of Women's and Children's Health is an international and multi-professional institution with a focus on health and well-being. The global health perspective is always present, and there is collaboration across professions and clinical areas, both in education and in research. Strong research environments and a broad educational mission exist at the clinical Obstetrics/Gynaecology and Paediatric departments.

Description of subject area: The subject area perinatal medicine includes several areas related to pregnancy, childbirth and the neonatal period, such as foetal medicine, obstetrics and neonatology.

Duties: The duties include conducting own research and following developments in the subject area and in society in general that are relevant to the work at the University. The professor is expected to develop and lead perinatal medicine research at the Department of Women's and Children's Health, and to work across borders, bridging the Obstetric and the Paediatric research groups. The position includes teaching the subject matter at the Bachelor's and Master's level, as well as related management and organizational tasks.

Eligibility: To qualify for a professorship appointment, an applicant must have shown sufficient expertise in both research and teaching (Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance). According to Section 5 of the Appointment Regulations for Uppsala University (AR), having the personal characteristics required to perform the duties of the position well is a general eligibility requirement for teachers. If special reasons exist, the teacher training for higher education may be undertaken during the first two years of employment.

The teacher training must include doctoral student supervision. The applicant shall have a documented ability to teach in Swedish or English (see Section 6 of the AR). A medical degree and specialist expertise in either obstetrics and gynaecology or neonatology (or equivalent expertise) is required to be eligible for this position. If the applicant does not hold a Swedish certificate of specialist expertise, they must have submitted an application for a Swedish certificate of specialist expertise in one of the above subjects to the National Board of Health and Welfare by the closing date for applications for this position. However, the applicant must have obtained a Swedish certificate of specialist expertise in obstetrics and gynaecology or in neonatology (or equivalent expertise) by the time the appointment decision is taken. If the person offered the position also meets Uppsala University Hospital's requirements for employment as a senior physician, the applicant will be offered employment coupled with the position of senior physician.
