The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.

IMM seeks an epidemiologist who is expected to strengthen and further develop research in epidemiology at IMM with focus on developing research aimed at investigating environmental, occupational, lifestyle, and genetic factors in relation to the health of individuals. The successful candidate will be contributing to teaching theoretical epidemiology and methods at graduate and postgraduate level at Karolinska Institutet. The applicant is expected to lead a research group as well as supervise PhD students and postdoctoral junior researchers. The Professor in Epidemiology is also expected to actively contribute to the development of IMM and its strong academic environment with collaborations, seminars and other scientific interactions.

Entry requirements
All professors at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong international research profile in epidemiology and advanced epidemiologic methods, as documented by the number and quality of papers published in international journals with high impact. The applicant must have been the principal recipients of research funding granted in national or international competition during the last five‐year‐period, and have the potential to secure further funding within the research area. The applicant should show successful supervision of doctoral students through to the public defense of their thesis and postdocs. Experience from collaboration within an interdisciplinary research and health‐risk assessment is desirable.

The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2) and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).
