Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. The Department of Business Studies conducts research and education in six main fields: Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Management and Organisation, International Business, Entrepreneurship and Law and Business.

Distinguishing for the research in the field of marketing at the Department of Business Studies is the interest in dynamics and change in business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) relationships.. A common starting point is the view of markets as local and global networks of relationships between companies, where social, institutional and cultural aspects are important.

The assessment criteria used in the appointment of a teacher at Uppsala University will be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment.

In the appointment of this professorship, significance will be assigned to research expertise, management expertise, and teaching expertise. When rank-ordering eligible applicants, emphasis will primarily be placed on research expertise and secondly on leadership and teaching expertise. Equal consideration will be given to the evaluation of all three assessment criteria. The assessment criteria will be weighted so that an applicant who is judged to be significantly more qualified in terms of leadership and teaching expertise than a slightly more skilled applicant in terms of research expertise can be ranked ahead of the latter.

Research expertise: In assessing research expertise, research quality will be the primary consideration. The scope of the research, in terms primarily of its depth and breadth, will also be taken into account. Research qualifications also include the level of independence in developing and conducting research projects, as well as contributing to the international research discussion through publication in international journals or other internationally available publications. In addition to broad and deep anchoring in business studies, emphasis must be placed on documented research breadth within the sub-areas of marketing. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead and develop research and education at the doctoral level, the ability to obtain funding for research in competition, as well as the demonstrated ability to interact both in the scientific field and with the surrounding society will be given importance.

The applicant’s contributions to the international and national academic community will be assessed on the basis of such criteria as the quality and scope of their scholarly publications in the most relevant publishing channels for the subject. The international track record required will be assessed according to the nature and specific circumstances of the subject.

Research expertise must have been demonstrated through independent research contributions that both qualitatively and quantitatively considerably exceed that which is required for docent status.

The applicant must normally have been principal supervisor of at least one doctoral student up to and including the thesis defence, unless there are special grounds otherwise.

Management expertise are demonstrated through the ability to lead operations and staff, make decisions, take responsibility and motivate others and provide them with the prerequisites for effectively achieving common goals. Further examples of demonstrated skills include the ability to coordinate a group, foster commitment, encourage participation and create job satisfaction, as well as the ability to manage conflicts. The current position includes leading research groups in the various sub-areas of marketing. Therefore, special emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to collaborate and the capability to lead and develop research activities within the entire subject of marketing.

Special emphasis must be placed on a documented ability to collaborate and the ability to lead and develop research activities and staff within the entire subject of marketing. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on the ability to interact with the surrounding society.

Teaching expertise will be evaluated as carefully as research expertise and management expertise. In assessing teaching expertise, teaching quality will be the primary consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, will also be taken into account. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead and develop education and teaching, as well as the ability to base teaching on research in the subject concerned, subject didactics, and teaching and learning in higher education.
