We are looking for a principal research engineer within Quantitative Logistics


The position

You will work on design, analysis and implementation of geometric algorithms related to motion planning, with applications in GIS and air traffic management, including management of drones in urban environments. You will participate in a variety of local and international (EU) projects on the subject.


The person we need

We are searching for someone who is persistent and takes responsibility to achieve expected results. You have good collaboration skills where you are responsive and communicate well. Furthermore, we would like you to be a problem solver who works well with complex issues and has a good understanding of numerical data.

You are expected to have very good ability to communicate both orally and in writing in English.

The following education, experience and expertise are required:

  • A PhD in computational geometry, computer science or a related area
  • Experience in algorithms design and analysis
  • Programming expertise

In addition, the following education, experience and expertise will strengthen an application:

  • Expertise in computational geometry
  • Experience in in geometric algorithms
  • Expertise in processing GIS data (segments, polygons, areas, etc)

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.


The workplace

This employment will belong to the Quantitative Logistics unit that is part of the division Communication and transport systems (KTS). The KTS division is responsible for teaching at a number of educational programs, and conducts applied research and postgraduate education in cooperation with the surrounding society.

In the field of Quantitative Logistics, we use a systems analytical perspective and an engineering methodology to analyze, plan, model and simulate logistics problems and other resource distribution problems in both industry and society. Our research is mostly applied and we do research together with external customers and funders. Within education, we are responsible for a large number of courses in the field of logistics, for example supply chain management, transport logistics, city logistics, production economics and optimization, but we also have courses in air traffic and emergency response planning.

KTS is one of the largest university groups in Europe within transportation including around 70 researchers, teachers and PhD-students. We work in close cooperation with industry, authorities and research institutes. We contribute to the development of society with research and education in the fields of aviation, logistics, emergency response, railway and public transport, traffic systems, mobile telecommunication and construction. The research is organized in nine main areas and we have the responsibility for six educational programmes.
