Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The Department of Oncology-Pathology is searching for a postdoctoral fellow to work with Dr. Rolny and co-workers to study gene expression programs governing tumor-associate macrophage (TAM) phenotypes during tumor development. The Department of Oncology-Pathology conducts basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer. The research group has longstanding experience in the field of the tumor microenvironment field, and is a member of the Swedish Tumor Microenvironment Program (https://igp.uu.se/storm/about-storm ) and the Breast Cancer Theme Center (https://ki.se/en/research/brect-breast-cancer-theme-center ). More details about the groups can be found here.
Duties
The Rolny lab focuses on mechanism that governs TAMs immunosuppressive and pro-metastatic functions. Over the years, Rolny and co-workers, have provided evidence that reprograming of TAM pro-tumor phenotype into an anti-tumor phenotype is a valid anti-cancer strategy. We have now pinpointed a unique pathway that regulates TAM pro-tumor functions that may pave way for development of novel anti-cancer targets. We are seeking a motivated, creative post-doctoral candidate interested in exploring drivers of TAMs pro-tumoral functions. Studies will include state-of the art molecular biology, animal tumor models and patient material with the overarching goal to shed light on signaling pathways that govern TAM functions. The post-doctoral fellow will lead and execute the intended project according to timelines and set goals.
Your profile
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, with an outstanding completed PhD thesis (or equivalent) and a strong drive for a future career in research. The candidate should be capable of generating novel ideas, acquire knowledge independently and possess sufficient computational skills to evaluate and develop ongoing projects. It is preferable that the applicant has a background in tumor biology. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. At least one paper in a high-quality international peer-reviewed journal is necessary to be considered, additional academic merits will also be taken into an account. Because of the scope of the project, knowledge and experience in animal work, flow cytometry analysis and confocal microscopy imaging is required. Previous experience with the most common molecular biology techniques including cloning of genes, lenti-virus production, western blot analysis, qPCR is essential. In addition, personal suitability will be a factor in the selection process.
Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Location: Solna
Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
- A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
- A complete list of publications
- A summary of current work (no more than one page)
The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system on November 20 at the latest.
