Postdoctoral studies in Clinical Immunology (scholarship)

Welcome to the Bergman-team at the Department of Laboratory Medicine. We perform research on translational immunology, where we combine clinically oriented projects primary immunodeficiency (clinical studies, patient samples) with more basic projects about innate immunity and antimicrobial peptides (cell culture and zebrafish models). We are a dynamic team with well-established scientific collaborations. The group is placed in ANA Futura, a top modern research building with a large repertoire of researchers and access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities.

The Division of Clinical Immunology has a broad focus, including projects related to primary immunodeficiency, B-cell immunology as well as mesenchymal stem cells. The climate is dynamic with a balanced mix between junior and senior scientists. The division is embedded in the creative scientific environment at ANA Futura with approximately 300 researchers under the same roof.

The current project will focus on immunophenotyping and functional characterisation of cells from patients with primary immunodeficiency. The project will be a close collaboration with the team around Marcus Buggert, who is an expert on T-cell immunology. The project will involve the following methods: multiparameter flow cytometry, qPCR, cell-culture work, microbiological work, Western blot analysis, single cell RNA-sequencing, handling large data sets using R and similar programs.

We seek a curious, highly motivated and creative postdoc with a strong background in cellular immunology, microbiology and molecular biology. It is a great advantage to have a background as MD, since we will deal with clinical samples to a large extent and evaluation of medically related issues will be important. The ideal candidate should have experience in analyses of large datasets, using R or similar programs. The candidate should also have a good team spirit and bring a keen interest in solving intricate scientific questions in immunology. Experience with mammalian cell cultures, protein biochemistry, next-generation sequencing and large-scale bioinformatics analysis is a strength. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (in English written and verbal) is required. Emphasis will be also placed on personal suitability, fitting well into the current research group.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education. The exact starting date can be discussed.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
