Updated: about 1 year ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The “Genome Integrity” group at the Karolinska Institutet - SciLifeLab, led by Prof. Jiri Bartek has one postdoc vacancy.

Part of our research focuses on various mechanistic aspects of ribosome biogenesis and protein translation in cancer biology. Using a combination of wet-lab techniques and bioinformatics we aim to discover markers and druggable targets that can be exploited for personalized therapy. A major aspect of our work is functional characterization of proteins and cellular signaling pathways involved in genome stability maintenance, ribosome biogenesis, and protein synthesis. Division and Research Group

Our group is integrated at the Division of Genome Biology, together with other competitive groups that work in areas such as epigenetics, genome stability, advanced imaging or genomics (https://ki.se/en/mbb/research-division-of-genome-biology ).

Apart from other competitive grants, our team has obtained generous funding from the Swedish Research Council that secures its activities in the long term.

At SciLifeLab, our group is intertwined with other world leaders in various areas of molecular biosciences, and has access to national facilities for proteomics, next generation sequencing, chemical biology and drug discovery among others. The research lab is well-equipped with state-of-the-art microscopes and other imaging tools.

Your mission

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative post-doctoral candidate interested in exploring aberrant ribosome biogenesis and translation in cancer establishment and progression with overall aim to use this knowledge to improve treatment of cancer.

Duties

You have a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or other relevant fields. It is considered an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last two years. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director, or equivalent.

You should have good knowledge in cancer biology and hands-on experience in different cell and molecular biology techniques, such as cancer cell culture and treatment, cell cycle and survival assays, flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, Western blot, co-immunoprecipitation, and immunofluorescence microscopy. Knowledge of and hands-on experience with polysome profiling, click-IT chemistry, and high-throughput microscopy, gene-editing assays, RNA-Seq and image analysis (R, python) are considered outstanding merits. The successful candidate should have a competitive publication record as applies to the career stage, and the capacity to independently develop research projects. Complete fluency in both written and spoken English is necessary. The position will be funded as a scholarship (stipend).

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: SciLifeLab, Solna Campus

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
