Postdoctoral Researcher ON THE PHYSIOLOGY AND FUNCTION OF A PAIN INITIATING SENSORY END-ORGAN

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A two-year post doctoral fellowship with possibilities of extended stay is available at the Division of Molecular Neurobiology, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. We recently discovered a new pain initiating organ in the skin. This organ is built from specialized cutaneous Schwann cells that are mechnosensitive (Abdo et al., Science. 2019 Aug 16;365 (6454):695-699. doi: 10.1126/science.aax6452 ).

Your mission

The candidate will characterize the mechanosensitive ion channel and physiological properties of these cells by electrophysiology and access novel enabling technologies including opto- and chemo-genetics and advanced mouse genetic models for achieving the objectives of the project. The laboratory is very well equipped for electrophysiology, advanced mouse genetics, advanced cellular and molecular biology, single cell RNA sequencing and DNA sequencing, behaviour, neuroanatomy and imaging methods.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Documented experience in patch clamp electrophysiology, single sensory nerve recordings and optogenetics in mice is required. Experience in mouse genetics, cellular and molecular biology and pain biology and behavior is meriting.
