We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in theoretical nuclear physics at Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden). You will contribute at the forefront of physics research, in particular by developing advanced computational methods. Our main research direction involves ab initio approaches based on chiral effective field theory to describe low-energy nuclear physics and we are developing advanced statistical methods and emulator technology to quantify theoretical uncertainties. You will take a leading role in this research aiming to study (i) the applicability of the ab initio framework for describing few- and many-nucleon systems and (ii) for low-energy precision tests of fundamental interactions and physics beyond the standard model.

Information about the research
The theoretical subatomic physics group performs theoretical research on nuclear, elementary particle, and astroparticle physics. The focus of the current search is low-energy nuclear theory (nucl-th). Organizationally we are part of the Division of Subatomic, High-Energy and Plasma Physics within the Department of Physics . Moreover, we have a strong international position within our research area and benefit from many collaborations world wide. We strive for providing a stimulating and collaborative research environment with high scientific standards.

The postdoctoral project will focus on fundamental science questions in theoretical nuclear physics. More specifically, we will use ab initio nuclear-structure theory and a modern understanding of the nuclear interaction grounded in effective field theory to model subatomic processes with quantified theoretical uncertainties. The project will involve the development of state-of-the-art research methods that involve quantum many-body theory, effective field theory, computational physics, and advanced statistical methods. This gives an excellent opportunity for you to both develop new theoretical skills and learn new computational techniques and statistical approaches.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as a postdoctoral researcher is to carry out research aimed at a better understanding of low-energy nuclear physics. You are also expected to develop own ideas and find your own ways in tackling research challenges. The position may include some supervision of bachelor, master, and PhD students. It is expected that your research will be integrated within international research collaborations and that you will take an active role within these collaborations. You will therefore be expected to contribute to the continued development of our computer codes and employ them in your own research and collaborative projects. You will communicate research results at international conferences as well as in scientific journals.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment, planned to start in the fall of 2022 (starting date is flexible). The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1). 

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Physics. You also need an educational background in theoretical physics (quantum many-body theory, effective field theory, computational physics are particularly relevant). Good programming skills and experience with nuclear many-body solvers and statistical methods are meritorious. 

As Chalmers is a highly international environment, proficiency in written and spoken English is necessary. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
