The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several units that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

The research group is located at the Centre of Molecular Medicine (CMM; and belongs to the Unit of Dermatology and Venereology, Karolinska University Hospital Solna. The research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting with strong collaboration with clinical departments and other national and international research groups. The principal investigator Dr Jakob Wikström, MD PhD, work in close collaboration with the other dermatology oriented research groups.

The application is open for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in experimental life science and proven expertise in cell and molecular biology, metabolism or mitochondria. The applicant will be responsible for planning and performing in vitro and in vivo experiments. The research project is focused on the role of mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum in skin biology. The laboratory has a translational focus and the projects will be focused on clinically relevant conditions however some basic science aspects will also be pursued. Experience with transgenic animals, animal surgery and confocal microscopy is meriting.

Applicant should have a PhD degree within the area of biomedical research and have strong interest in medical and biological problems.

The applicant needs to have documented previous experience with cell culture and animal work. Previous experience with other animal disease models, competence in molecular biology, imaging and mitochondria is an advantage. Previous experience in supervising students and working with method development are meritorious.
